This family had a very clear idea of what aesthetics they liked individually but they weren't quite sure how to achieve it within their spaces or how to combine them into one room. Their modern farmhouse / contemporary styles overlapped with light woods, clean lines , pops of color and geometric patterns. Quality family time in the evenings was a top priority for this family with two quickly growing kids. Increased seating options for family get togethers as well as better storage for a clean, calming space to relax in at the end of their busy work & school days was a must. The new spaces now better reflect their fun-loving yet grounded approach to life and family time.
FOYER
Swapping out the entryway table for a brighter one and adding some new lighting along with a beautiful mirror helped brighten and open the space up. Simple florals and some colorful decor helps define their home's style for guests as they enter.
FOYER
Adding a cozy but bright entryway bench with a geometric coat rack that doubles as art when not in use gave them a drop zone for guests without the clutter of a coat closet. The bench also adds to living room seating in a pinch.
FOYER & FAMILY ROOM
With the front door opening directly onto the family room, the use of some tall greenery provided a subtle privacy screen. Custom cabinetry & several ottomans allow ample storage for electronics, games & even blankets for movie nights. A gallery wall highlights the importance of family in this home. Geometric patterning in the rugs and the shiplap wall are softened by the curves of the mirror, side tables, floor lamp and blue storage ottomons.
Custom cabinetry was done by Springhurst Woodworking , complete with soft close doors and floating shelving. Light wood tones against the moody vertical shiplap wall definitely provided the accent wall this room needed to feel anchored. The wall helps hide the TV by day and at night the LED backlighting shines across the darkness creating a movie theatre like experience.
Floating shelves provide contrast against the dark wall and a space for decor or family photos.
We swapped out the solid basement door for a glass paned version allowing the room to feel deeper & the finished basement to seem more connected to the rest of the home.
